Working on adding Python 3.10+ to the test matrix

It works if I install everything in editable mode on CI, which should not be necessary, but if I can't quickly understand what's the better solution I might settle for it

Actually it might be unavoidable with the current source layout, so let's just roll with it

While I'm at it, and since it's basically free: fix #9, and partially #8
